If you’re looking to save some money while getting the kids ready for the new school year, the 2021 Texas Tax Free Weekend begins Friday, Aug. 6 and ends Sunday, Aug. 8.
Clothing, footwear and school supplies under $100 will be exempt from sales tax during these three days, saving shoppers approximately $8 for every $100 spent. Best of all, the tax-free weekend applies to purchases made in person, online and over the phone!
Most clothing and shoes priced under $100 are tax exempt during the weekend, but notable exceptions include athletic gear like cleats, helmets and pads. Accessories, belts, purses, watches and wallets are also not included in the tax holiday. A full list of which items are and aren’t included can be found on the Texas Comptroller website.
Additional items you might not have known will be tax free include: cloth and disposable face masks, baby diapers and bibs, hosiery, graduation gowns and caps, pajamas, workout clothes, veils and uniforms (school, work, nurse, waitress, military, postal, police, fire).
School supplies eligible for the tax exemption include:
