New UNT Soccer Stadium To Break Ground in October

Fans of the Mean Green will soon have a brand new, state-of-the art facility to cheer on their favorite team. The University of North Texas plans to break ground on a new UNT soccer stadium and track field in October.

The venue will feature a 14,000-square-foot field house, a soccer field, eight-lane track and seating for around 1,5000 people, new coaches’ offices, locker rooms, a team-meeting area and an athlete lounge. Located near the Waranch Tennis Complex, construction is expected to be completed by August 2018.

“We are excited to announce the soccer, track and field stadium has been fully approved and will be under construction soon,” said Wren Baker, North Texas Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics and Director of Athletics, in a press release. “The completed stadium will be one of the best in the region and our conference. It will vastly improve the experience for our fans and our student-athletes. We anxiously look forward to its completion.”

The Mean Green women’s soccer team will call the new stadium home. The team has 22-straight winning seasons, with 12 conference titles and seven runner-up finishes.

“This shows our administration is serious about women’s soccer,” head soccer coach John Hedlund said in a press release. “Having outstanding facilities helps to sell the university, the athletics department and obviously our individual sports programs. A new stadium will give us a beautiful venue to play in and a place where potential recruits will want to come and be a part of continuing to build the UNT soccer program.”
