Peanut Festival History

Peanut farming was once big business in the small Denton County town. According to Denton County History and Culture, the first peanuts were planted in Aubrey in the 1920s. The sandy soil in the area was ideal for peanut farming, which was considered a cash crop at the time.

The Aubrey Peanut Festival was founded in 1986 to pay homage to the farmers and celebrate the harvest. Today, it honors the area’s peanut heritage and includes a full slate of activities, including live music, street performers, a free kid zone and more than 100 arts and crafts booths.
